Greg and I have had many conversations about our life and future together. However, we hadn't really talked about actually getting married so the proposal was an unexpected yet, wonderful surprise!
Two years ago in July, we were getting ready to leave for one of my business trips to Alaska! Greg came over to help me pack and asked me if I packed everything I needed; I have been known to forget very important items! I told him I did. He proceeded to ask me, “are you sure you didn't forget anything?” and I started to wonder...what I may have forgotten? And That’s when he pulled out the little leather box from his pocket!! My heart stopped. Greg said "I think you forgot this.” I immediately understood what was taking place and I wrapped my arms around him. He continued to say, “I know this is not the most romantic, but I had the ring for awhile and I couldn't find the right time to give it to you with everything that was going on.” He continued to say in the most kind, gentle voice, “Jin Trotter, I love you very much! Will you marry me someday?” As he slipped the most beautiful ring I had ever seen, on my finger, I continued to hug and hold him tightly, tears running down my face. Greg asked, “Is that a yes!?” and I told him YES! Its definitely a Yes!!
At the time, My mother was very ill and we knew she wouldn’t be with us much longer. Greg being the wonderful man that he is wanted to ensure we could share this beautiful, monumental moment with the woman I loved more than anything in the world, my Mom.
Some time later, we were with my mom at the hospice care center and brought her out to the beautiful gardens. Surrounded with sunshine, botanicals and the perfect breeze, we shared our wonderful news and showed Mom the ring! We held hands and though she was not able to say a lot, we could feel her heart was at peace knowing that I was going to spend my life with a man who truly loved and cherished me.
Mom passed away a few weeks after the proposal, and though my heart was broken, I am beyond grateful that Greg and I could share this incredible time and these unforgettable moments with her.
